Second Trimester Update

I hadn't planned on doing a second trimester update but as I go back and read through the first trimester one I did, I am glad I did it. There are things I forgot about that I am grateful I have written down somewhere. So with that being said, here is my second trimester update.

At 14 weeks we found out the gender (baby boy!) at an ultrasound outside of my doctors office. I am so glad we did this and didn't wait until the 20 week anatomy scan. That was the original plan but I could wait. It turned out that Adam couldn't come to the 20 week scan so I am so glad we did the 14 week one and we were able to find out the gender together.

April 17th

I am 21 weeks and the second trimester is going pretty well. Baby boy is growing steadily and was 12oz at my anatomy scan at 20 weeks. I am so grateful he is nice and healthy.

I am not too worried about it but it was a shock to see the scale at a 132lbs this morning at my doctors appointment. I started off at 118lbs for a reference I knew it would happen but boy it is a shock for someone who doesn't generally gain weight. I have been eating about the same as I did pre-pregnancy but I have noticed a definite increase in my hunger the past couple of weeks. I am trying to eat healthy and not just pig out on chips but you know, we all have our days. I am working out consistently now. I started working out again around 16 weeks I guess it was. I wasn't about it the first trimester and it freaked me out. (even though I know it is completely safe) I now workout about 5 times a week and take walks as often as the weather allows. I should have a post up by now about my workout routine.

Mentally I am doing a whole lot better this trimester although the not leaving the house part is still rough. Feeling him kicking me is very reassuring and that started around 18 weeks.

I will have to say my cravings have pretty much gone away at this point. As well as my aversions which is nice. I still am very hormonal don't get me wrong haha But in general I am feeling much more like myself again.

The usual suspects started around 19 week including the indigestion and just aches and pains. Sleeping has becoming much more of a challenge. I have to sleep on my left side now for those that don't know and it is not easy for this back sleeper.

24 weeks. Well, I can sleep better now. I think I finally "filled out" enough to fit the pregnancy pillow. I make sure to stretch before bed because that seems to make me way less achy the next morning.

I am constantly hungry. I eat and I'm still hungry. Since we can't easily run to the grocer store right now without having to suit up. not to mention I can't go at all so I am relying on Adam and Instacart to get me my snacks. I am about to order a bunch of snacks on Instacart for this next week and call it a day. I am in full blown nesting mode or maybe its just from being stuck in the house all the time...it's cold again so our outdoor activities have been put off until next weekend it looks like. I now am having Adam move furniture around and we are painting. I am having him help me finish up the renovation projects we didn't get to last year.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day and I believe we have nothing planned but to work on things around the house. I don't mind, I am happy I am getting to spend so much time with Adam before Baby H comes and all of our attention goes to him. Speaking of Baby H, I am 24 weeks this week and we have decided on a name! We are going to keep it to ourselves I believe until he is born.

May 21st.

26 weeks and sleep went out the window. Goodness I am feeling all the things that come with the third trimester. My legs and hips ache every night and sleeping is just me flip flopping from side to side trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep. I have never had problems sleeping and I am not a fan of being awake constantly all night. Every day is different with how my body feels. One day I am able to do all the things and the next I just need to sit down all day. This week I have been organizing the entire house because what else is there to do when you can't leave the house... We are planning a couple of virtual showers and the gifts have started to arrive! I hate that we can't have a traditional shower like we had planned but we are making the best of what we are able to do and will have a couple of virtual showers. I will go into more detail later about that.

I have my glucose test next week and then its back to the doctor a week after that. I will be in my third trimester by then and then its doctors appointments every couple of weeks and I will be in the final stretch! We are getting more excited as my due date gets closer, he is moving more and more and it is amazing.

27 weeks and I am learning my body all over again. I spoke about the in my first trimester post  but as I get further along it is even harder to figure out your ever chaining body. You think you know your body, what makes you feel good/bad etc and then you get pregnant and that changes constantly as your body changes. This week I have things figured out, what I need to eat (most days) to feel good, how much exercise I need and how to sleep so I can get some sleep. This week, like most of my pregnancy or well second trimester I workout 5 days a week and 2 of those days (Monday and Friday) I do yoga. The rest of the week I do strength workouts. I use the Tone It Up pregnancy program if you are interested. I have found the aches and pains at night are less if I do some extensive stretching before bed.

This week I had my glucose tolerance test and it came back normal! For someone who may need this information, I had a low carb/low sugar diet the day before the test and then the morning of I ate one scrambled egg. The test itself isn't bad at all. The drink tastes like orange gatorade and I just sat in my car for an hour and then they drew my blood and I was done. The waiting to get my blood drawn was the worst part. My doctor uses quest diagnostics and you can sign up on their website to get your results. I found out my results the day after which was great.

This is the last week of my second trimester and I can't believe I am already almost in my third. It has flown by. I am working on a post of items that I have used throughout pregnancy but I wanted to make sure everything works well and add things as I have needed them so I will post that in a few weeks.
